I have a fairly well decorated 180g tank with some 3-5" CA. There's an Argentea, Synspilum, 2 Regani, an unknown Vieja or something similar, and a Green Terror. There's also a very small chocolate pleco, rhino pleco, and three 4-7" clown loaches. I do weekly 30% water changes, and have clear, stable water conditions. There is next to no aggression in the tank. At first the Syn beat on the Argentea, but now everything has been calm for a few weeks. Do you guys feel that there's still some room in the tank? Ideally I'd like to get something like a RD/Midas/Festae/Texas/Rotkiel/Bocourti. I really... really want a Bocourti but I can't seem to find one locally and I find shipping too pricey. There's a local breeder that has some nice F1 or F2 Festae. What do you guys think? Am I pushing my luck if I add another fish or two? I know everything is a crap shoot, but I'd like the opinions of some knowledgeable people to see what they think. Thanks!

Definatly would not add a festae maybe a sev species but when those fish get big your gong to be over stocked as it is and it may not work anyway. Viejas are all quite aggressive to co-specifics so there is probably a war coming. But you never known all you can do is try and adjust when necessary.

Go for it. If it doesn't work, just have a backup plan. Make sure you have great filtration.

If I went the route of the Festae I was going to only get 1 female. Just to keep it on the smaller, and less aggressive side. I know that the Vieja are supposed to get nasty to one another, but I think the Syn has established himself as the boss. Everyone is afraid of him, and I think it helps keeps the aggression minimal. For filtration I'm running two AQ110s, the Hyrdo-Sponge V, a XP3 and a fluval 305. Even though none of the filters are fantastic, I think it works well since they're located across the entire width of the tank. There is also 2 Maxijet 1200s to blow the poop around and add some circulation.

IMO as your fish mature you are already going to be fully stocked. Also, I know the breeder of the festae (I was just there last week) and there is no way that you will be able to sex any of their festae at their current size, so choosing a single female will be impossible.

Yeah, I contacted the Festae breeder and they said the same thing. I didn't end up adding anything :)
