Well I hit an out of town store today and found what was marked as a Female Dempsey. She was pretty stressed but by the marking should be a female. Almost all of her gill plate is speckled blue where as my male has next to none in his plate. Currently doing a water change and am going to start painting the back plack after that then I will get some pictures. She(hopefully) was really dark and most of her coloring except for the lower gill plates was gone due to her tankmates were a pair of O's and some other mean fish. Also is the FX5 enough filtration for the 75? I do have an emporer 400 that I could get back and toss in there but am thinking HOT Magnum for its polishing cartridge.

fx5 is overkill and a lot of current for the fish u want to keep turn the current down and yes a hob filter will compliment your canistor nicely... your fx5 will do a nice job with the mechanical aspect and i always use a hob for some bacteria . as far as your fish females will be round especially where her topfin meets her head the fin will be shorter rounded and more sloped back.. small fish coloration especialy stressed is hard to determine.. gill coloaration after a week could change and all those spangles could appear its happened to me a few times but it sounds like a female good luck n have fun
