i love my ornates and i think i have a male and a female that like each other. every night they swim up and down the right side of the tank AND EVEN HUNT together, they are about 6-8" long and getting thicker, thinking about letting taz hold down the third one so that he could grow up. i hope they try and spawn and do i need some moss on my log for their eggs? will put video up if i can get a good one soon enough.
those are the two in my signature.

that i can see but it is hard to tell this because they are ornates and their patterns make it hard to tell sex plus they need to get alittle bigger to make sure.

Just my nickels worth of input part of the problem with breeding failures is many species
are thought to be age. While bichirs can be sex can be determined while they are fairly small they may not reach sexual maturity till they are 4-6 years of age.-Anne

Cool I think your right... Not that I know anything but that's cool!

can you tell age by size? Not with any great reliability my female is 16.5 inches and three years old give or take 6 months

would they need to be seperated from the rest so noone eats the fry or eggs (dont know what they do)?
Yes you should remove the eggs and if possible isolate the eggs from each other also very young bichrs can be cannabalistic-Anne

Bichirs are egg scatterers and show no sign of parental care

:headbang2 whats up beblondie, not trying to mate yet i know they are not old enough yet, but if they are a pair it sure is fun watching them dance and play toghether.:naughty:
