These two have been hanging out together a lot lately. Defending an area, but no signs of spawning. Still kind of small, so they doubt they will be successful.

Thanks, hope they are successful. Never had any thorichthys spawn in this tank, so it will be interesting. That photobomer HRP was born and raised in that tank. I had many spawns and the HRP bred like convicts lol. I sold off all but her.
Thanks and I agree they are a very underrated fish. I have 4 in this tank. I think 3 males and one female. I noticed the other small male has been fighting w/ this male, but he is smaller.
Then I have a 6" male who rules the tank. He even bullied a 13" male v. Melanura when I had him.
Questions:
at what size can meeki produce healthy fry? I had a lot of success w/ HRP in this tank, even with astyanax tetras who are natural cichlid fry predators.
Will the meeki have a chance like the HRP?

Around the 4 inch mark give or take.
I have never found any of the thorichthys species I have kept managed to defend a spawn long enough for the fry to make it on their own in a community.
You may have more luck than I but I doubt it with astyanax in the tank.
I always syphon a few out at the free swimming stage if I want to grow any on.
Having said that,you just never know.

Thanks Darren. I think they have a bit more growing to do. There are no signs of spawning yet. They male is trying to defend the area, which for his size, he's doing a pretty good job. Even fending off the bigger tetras and the deppii.
Entertaining aren't they.I love watching thorichthys fending off intruders.They don't have the brawn to back it up but they certainly put on a good show.
