Trumpet snails were still overwhelming one tank. I had gotten rid of them in my other tanks. Here is what I did:
Step 1: removed all sand from aquarium, as well as all ornaments, powerheads, etc.
step 2: used vac to pick up anything remaining in the tank.
Step 3: let tank clear up some, searched all walls of the tank for more snails.
step 4: removed all snails i could find in the sump, put a sponge prefilter on my return pump
step 5: Put brand new sand into the aquarium.
Step 6: Added 15 assassin snails to take care of any survivors
essentially, i wanted to eliminate all trumpet snails. originally i had about 50 assassin snails in the tank, and they couldn't even dent the population. over a week, i removed 47 live assassin snails, and put them in my other tanks. then I did the above. I'm fairly confident i got all the snails out of the main tank, and its impossible for them to go from the sump to the main tank. Think the 15 assassin snails in the tank will be able to assassinate any survivors?
