Ok so I went to the pet store to test my water and was told that everything was good, except the ammonia was a little high. They instructed me to do a water change. My bumblebee cichlid and tank mate were fine and swimming before cleaning. Afterwards though my Bumblebee cichlid was swimming around and all of a sudden she swam down the the bottom of the tank and is laying on her side. Her tank mate is not acting differently at all. She will move occasionally, but she is also breathing hard it looks like. Could someone help me? And tell me what it could be?

Any ammonia is considered toxic, I would step up water changes until its alleviated. Also what is your pH and hardness?

How big of a water change did you do?
I feel did a complete water change, i definitely believe I shouldn't have done that now because my fish died over night. I just always did it the same way for the past 5 months and everything was fine. But going forward, how much of a water change should I do for now on to keep this from happening again?

I would get a test kit and check all your levels. I do 30-50% weekly, you might have to do more or less, depending on filtration, tank size and stock, etc.

Was there a big temperature difference in the water? Could have shocked it.

Some things to consider in future if you haven't heard of them, would be water conditioners firstly; to get rid of chlorine in tap water for water changing.

Also when you replace water, try to match the temperature as closely as possible to the tank water, I'd allow for 2° either way at a push.

But yeah any ammonia, regular water changes; can also try chemicals that aid the filter bacteria at a push.

Temperature before hand was between 80-82, after it was a little cooler around 78-80.

what is a "complete water change"? check the temp. what size tank is it?
Complete,

complete, sorry by that I meant took all of the water out and placed all new water. Put them in a little tank while I was cleaning theirs. I put them back in gently to kind of get used to the water but my bigger Mbuna swam and was fine, but unfortunately my Bumblebee was not.
