Look for one without a tube. J/K. Females usually show a dorsal spot around 3" If it is bigger than that it should be pretty obvious but when they are smaller it is very hard to tell. If you are picking from a large group look for the largest fish. Females tend to grow much slower than males and thus usually the larger of the group will be male. I would not be too upset if that's a female though. She looks good and good looking females can be valuable. Especially for breeding purposes.

o.k i wont cry to much about it she is in a tank next to my male trimac that caused her tube to drop. i will look for a male to breed her with then is the market still easy to get ride of fry. thats why i quite c/a breeding allways wound up feeding alot of fry to bigger fish.

that tube is a good sign, as you know she will be laying her eggs soon. There is an article some where on here saying how you can squeeze the fish belly and if you see the white liquid come out then its a male if not then its a female. It works for me when I try that with my flower horn but when it comes to red texas I had it wrong. The clear liquid come out and a few weeks later she lay eggs :(.
