a freind of a freind of mine has a 350 acrylic (8 feet long dont know the other dimensions) with overflows that I guess has been being used for a monitor lizard of some sort for the last 4 years. He recently had to sell the lizard and I guess is looking to sell the tank.He said he would give it up for $200 but that I should really come look at it because it is very scratched up.

I was wondering what I should know before going to see it? if acrylic tanks can be restored, and if so (not wanting to do it myself) if I could maybe pay somone to do it somwhere?basicly does it sound worth it?

Monitors are VERY strong lizards with big claws. I don't doubt the lower sides are a real mess. I've removed minor scratching from acrylic tanks with a kit before but from what he kept in it and his insistance that you look at it first I'd worry about it. Scratches on the inside however are MUCH less noticable once filled so ask if he'll put some water in it for you and then judge.

okay well I'm going to go look at it maybe tomorrow or the next day.:)

If it is pretty scratched up though is there any way the scratches can be fixed and is there anybody who does or would do that sort of thing for a fee?

where are you? if you pass on it i would take it ;)

there is a liquid acrylic solution that you can buy that fills the scratches in. also i think that if you take shavings from acrylic into metholinechloride it would melt the acrylic and once poared onto the scratched acrylic what i read is that if you leave it and dont touch for a week it gets leveled it self...

but i dont know about this method? i just read about it wast week and havent had a opertunity to try it.
