I am thinking of stock for my 130gal 6' tank and I am thinking 10 small clowns would be a good place to start. The problem is what to pair them with. Setup will be a 6' tank with 2 fx5's with a sand bottom.

Can anyone give me some ideas on what to stock with the clowns? I have seen red severum and such and I think that would look cool but I am open to ideas.

Thanks

anything that can't eat them. clowns get along with anything. I can't suggest cichlids as I don't keep them so I have no clue, but I have 8 CL's in with my bichirs, bush fish, butterfly fish and a featherfin cat and its a perfectly peaceful setup.

Ok i am thinking of some tank mates... let me know good or bad about anything on the list. Thanks everyone that helps out.

Black Ghost Knifefish, Giant Danio, Rainbow Shark, Spotted African Leaf Fish, Electric Blue Ram, Roseline Shark, Green Tiger Barb, Fire Eel

Im not looking to put everything in the tank just mix it up with other fish. Let me know if you think any of these are a big no no or if you have had bad luck with them.

I am not familiar with non aggressive fish so this is all out of my knowledge range.

I have 6 clowns in with my 7 angels 3 Geophagus tapajos and a black ghost knife. It's a 125g tank.

Any of those would be fine with clowns.

Right now I keep boesemani rainbows, long fin german blue rams, bolivian rams, red tailed shark, glowlight tetras, and in a couple of weeks a flagtail if he doesn't chomp my java fern. :) Over the years I've kept clowns with angels, geos, black ghost knife, fire eel, assortment of tetras, roselines, and I don't even remember what else. I just recommend caution with geos as they can get territorial if not enough floor space and africans will tend to nip their dorsal and tail fins. I don't recommend them with discus as they're too fast/spunky/food hogs. Clowns are overall very versatile!

Do you have pictures of your tank that you could share?

I have mine with rays, they are good for "dither fish" as well as for cleaning up scraps. Get a bigger group for the future as well as hiding spaces and they will grow well. Other tank mates are silver dollars and danios.

All of those would work though the fire eel will outgrow the tank. I had a fire eel that grew from 14" to 32"+ in a matter of 2 years.

I'd buy a leopard ctenopoma (I'm guessing this is the Spotted African Leaf Fish you are referring to), rainbow shark, roseline shark and the knife with your loaches. I'd also add some filament barbs and congo tetras to the mix along with a severum cichlid. Get them all small and let them grow up together. If you get the congo tetras, I'd leave off the tiger barbs as they are nippy and may nipe the fins off the tetras. A stocking like this will give the tank a lot of motion.
