I'm thinking about starting a Discus / Angle tank. Just wondering everyones opinions. I have a 90 gal, I want to do 3-4 discus and 2-3 angels, a couple german blue rams and a couple geos, topajos and heckli possibly. Any feed back and suggestions are appreciated, and what kind of discus should I get?

It is not advisable to keep only 3 discus due to aggression issues. 4 is the bare minimum. If I were you, replace all those angels for an extra discus to maintain a number of 5. Angels tend to outcompete discus for food for the most part. How big of the discus are you going to start with? If you want discus with body diameter no more than 3.5 inches, then consider raising them in a barebottom tank with plenty of feedings and water changes until such time when the tank can be decorated heavily with plenty of plants, etc. Juvenile discus require very clean water to avoid stunting otherwise buy the adults which are more forgiving to the water quality than the juveniles.

I agree with Lupin. Leave out the angels and geo's. Heckli are way to agressive and so are most of the tapojos geo's. The Steiny's can work but I wouldn't mess with them either. Discus are best kept with cory's, BN pleco's, apisto's, and rams. Make sure you read up on discus requirements before you jump in.

yeah man i'd go with like 6discus and mabe a pait or two of rams i'd do one pair German Blue and the other Gold......i thought there was a third variation of rams......mabe some nice big neons or cardinal tetras i've always like a nice school of neons w/ a bunch of discus. the angels can be bullies when it comes to being in the same tank w/ discus cuz like Lupin said the are alot faster swimmers and will hog all the food they may end up stressing the discus out and nip their fins. so i'd plant the whole thing. i want a tank like this one but 125gal DROOOOOOOOOOL!!!!
