Guys I have a 210 that's 84x24x24 setup currently with 3 bala sharks, an Oscar and a common pleco. Thinking about doing some switch up and maybe trying a SE Asian setup in the 210. I could move my Oscar to my 6' 125 that houses some big SD's to keep it a more true biotope.

I have 3 other big bala's in the 125 that I could put in the 210 so that would make a total of 6. I also have 9 clown loaches growing out right now, various sizes from 2-5". I would plan on putting them in the 210 as well.

Would that be pushing it in the 210, 9 clown loaches and 6 balas? Anything else I could/should put in there? It has a 50 gallon sump, an xp4 and aquaclear 110 - I like a variety of filtration.

Also, any thoughts on decor, have some driftwood in there and a couple rocks - but not much at the moment.

I like where you are going with this. I personally will not mix new world fish with old world fish. Hell I'm getting to the point where I wont mix Ca cichlids with SA cichlids. I would love to do a similar type of biotope but adding an asian aro. I think that you could for sure add a little something else to the list that you have now.

tin foils comes to mind...

I myself have African, North/central/south american and asian fish in one tank...

I could go crazy and add a jardini to complete my tour of the continents but the thought of little bits of fish floating in my tank always stayed my wallet...

Yeah, I have a couple of mixed up tanks too - but I also have a Malawi tank and a Tanganyika tank that are fairly true. I was just thinking that I have 3 balas in one tank and 3 in another & maybe they'd like to hang out. Then I thought I have some clown loaches, hey SE Asia! I get myself into trouble when I think lol..

Ok, tinfoils are a possibility - always thought an aro would need a bigger tank than a 210, would love to have one tho. Any others?

Ahh of course, an aro would need a lot more space, 300gal at least. And we would need a different citizenship to ''properly'' own them....;)

Sounds like a nice set up in the making and I have always been a fan of keeping fish together that at least live in the same part of the world if not body of water...Im no loach expert but I think they can eventually reach a large size but if they are slow growers they should do well for a while in that space.

Didn't know they made jumbo tiger barbs... lol. Wonder if there is anything else that would work, I'll do some more looking but still open to ideas!

Thanks and yeah I wondered if 9 clown loaches would be pushing it once they all grew out. I've had a few large loaches in the past, but none that were past the 8" mark. My bala's are already nice size, 8-12" and chubby - they are very greedy (& noisy) eaters.

I've seen pretty big tiger barbs at the LFS labeled Jumbo. They grow to a few inches I believe. Also, Ive never kept Balas before but Ive seen them and they dont really look predatory to me, so you could just throw in a bunch of small tiger barbs or roseline barbs and grow them out. I know for sure that no matter how big the CLs get they wont be eating your smaller fish.
