Thinking about a sump...

Thinking about dropping my canisters and getting a sump. Could use some help though. My first issue is getting the sump under my 150 Tall that is 48x24x30 and with both doors open has a bar in the middle you will see it in the pictures. Also what is the biggest tank I could get to fit under my stand the inside demnsions are ~22.5x48. I will probably make my own and use the Eheim media that I have in all my filters as I have a ton of the stuff. Also been thinking about a CPR Wet/ Dry as I like how they are setup. Also what would be a good pump this is a tall tank and I seem to get a bit of dead flow in one corner. Also I use a drip system so what would be the best way to drain as I just use a small CPR overflow right now. I will be stocking 1 Mono P-Bass and will shortly have an Intermedia as well. Wet/dry sumps are great biofilters, but not real good mechanicals. I don't think you could get better then the Eheims you already have though.
 
thats some expensive filtration already there, is that 3 seperate eheims? i think your good to go with that, how big is the tank?
 
That filter on the left in the pic. looks to be a 2250/60. :D
With the other 2 running as well, I would keep what you have.

150 Tall that is 48x24x30

I have a 150 tall 48x24x30 with an Eheim 22662, Eheim 2078 Pro 3E, Eheim 2229 Wet/ Dry. Just kind of a pain to service them as I have to take em apart to get them out from under the stand.

So does the extra holding tank act like a sump as they are connected by bulk heads and does the water level remain the same in both of them? Also how do you like the reverse flow you have? I have sand and don't know how that would work. I would want to use 2 return pumps one much lower flow as I can hook up my UV filter and one for something like you have to keep the poop off my sand for only being 1 fish so far he poopa alot. Sorry for all the newb questions but I understand the basics just not the means...

That second tank's primary function is to store water until the pump turns on to pump it to waste. Its secondary function is to serve as surge volume in the event of a power outage.

My gravel does not have anything in it and it has been up and running for about six months. Sand will turn into a "sand spring" if you have ever seen one before. Water and sand boil up from the "spring" location. It would turn your tank into a fluidized bed filter. :D

I can fit this under my stand and assemble it. What does everyone think? I would probably use their overflow for ease as I have one already and keep my drip system. as for the drain what would be the best way to do that? drill a hole in the side and attach a bulkhead to run to my basement? I know that my not be the best way as if power goes off the tank will drop but my water runs even with the power off so I should be good to go I would think.

What is better a HOB Overflow or a DIY PVC overflow? I think the HOB would be less noticable and easier to work with but I also have used the DIY ones with an old sump that I picked up for cheap. Pump would probably be a Mag Drive 2400 head will be about 4-4.5ft. if PVC what size should I make it? I will be probably ordering the CPR CR3000 above. Thinking 2 1.25" or 1.5" PVC over flows tee'd together then a Tee to split them in to each seperate bin. I'm thinking with 2 seperate ones I will get better coverage of my tank and not sure how to do the return just yet as I will want to hook up my uv may have to split it to a ball for my 18 watt uv. Anything else to think about? Pump would be run external probably as well.
