Hello, I have a spare 55 gallon and plan on putting some cherry and ghost shrimp in there to start off. And maybe some fish later. But I was wondering if there are any plants that require no special lights at all. I'll just have a standard 48" light strip on it, i'll have to see what bulb is in there now though. I was thinking anubis(sp?) and not sure if there are any other very low maintenance plants. Was also going to put in the black sand sachem flourite from foster and smith. Thanks

Japanese Moss Balls!! Good for Nitrates & almost Impossible to Kill! Unless you like burry it in dirt or something!!! And Moss Moss and more Moss! Taiwan Moss, Willow Moss, Christmas Moss oh My!!! Moss on Rock, Moss on Foreground, Moss on Drift Wood! Moss on Wall! Moss on Anything you want! YAY! =^___^=

oh and um Java ferns and um crypts! =D *Coughs* Moss *Coughs* lol

I've had a lot of luck with Banana Plants (Nymphoides Aquatica). They're cheap, fairly undemanding, true aquatic, and multiply through clippings. If you go with them, just make sure you don't "plant" the banana parts all the way into the substrate.

I second banana plants they are a neat plant that you can let float loose or partially buried.

In a just throw them in a use any light situation you atleast get some submerged leaves, in a tank that is setup for planted they throw lilly pads to the surface and shoot off little flowers.

Hey thanks a lot for the great responses! Think I'm going to decide which ones to get. Any good online sites people recommend for plants? My lfs is mainly marine equip. Thanks again!

anubias all the way. i love them even in my high light systems. specially when they flower. also if your looking for low maintenance i would stay away from moss. they are easy to grow and grow well. but when you trim them some of them float away and just start growing were ever they land. and if your trying to get an aquascape with moss only in a few spots it can be a PITA. but other then that moss is good stuff.

O and for places to get online i have always used THIS place or the S&S i would say the S&S is the best place but sometimes you have to wait a while to find what you want. i like aquabotanic because they are close to were i live so i can do normal shipping to reduce cost.

I used to use aquariumplants.com. I never had an issue. They've changed their shipping though, if you order anything live they'll only ship it on a monday or tuesday and only 2nd day express or faster, so you'll pay on shipping, but the plants usually look pretty crisp. They also have big "Plant Collections" where they'll ship you a big assortment of plants for about a buck a plant.
