I moved into a smaller house so had to sell some tanks down to 1, 200 gallon,,no room on the 1 still floor was thinking about a tank in the basement,,the place I bought had the kitchen added to the back of the house and is 10' x20 ,,there not basement under it its broken into 2 ,10' x 10' foot rooms that looks to have walls that go down not sure how far its has a 3 foot crawl space ,with a 3 x 3 window, going into the basement from the inside,I thought about digging it out 3 or 4 deeper cutting the hole for the front glass bigger ,,it would be a big project,,am I a little crazy or what,,,and does anyone know what type of stuff I would have to use to seel the glass to the back side of the wall I figure when full all the presure the glass will stay,,thanks wayne

Bummer about having to get rid of stuff.

How many gallons are you talking about? Resizing a basement window isn't simple. You would have to account for any overhead reinforcement...

So you're wanting the tank to be under your kitchen in the crawl space and use the current basement window there? It sounds like a building nightmare, doing it in a crawl space. But possible. Humidity buildup would be a concern for your kitchen floor then. The tank would also have to be strong enough and built to take not just the water pressure pushing out, but to also hold any back fill that you put back. I wouldn't just bury a regular glass tank in the ground and back fill around it.

Or are you wanting to use the current concrete walls and floors as tank walls? If so, you would want to look for any sign that these ever move from thermal expansion or anything else. If they move, its probably not worth trying, but you could bolt them together.

I diagram would help. Its hard to tell exactly what you're talking about.

I was thinking about using the walls that are there ,but after thinking about it ,2 sides are outside walls,,would get to cold in wisconsin,I'm still thowing around idea's ,I think I would have to frame out the tank inside there,,my goal is to get a tank an aro want out grow,I was looking at some of the nice tank biulds on this site, maybe if I went 3'x3' by 8, long and would be easier to heat and filter and still would give me alot of room in the tank, and alot of water,,lol
