I am thinking about buying a birchir tank mate's would be a 3" pike cichlid and a 3" midas currently have them in a 55 but am already serching for a 125 or larger. It is my son's first tank and my first time with what will be large fish. What type of birchir would be suitable for these tankmates?

the pike and midas can get aggresive when they get bigger so I would go with a larger bichir species. the polypeterus enderlicheri is one of the bigger species that will get over 20". also, the bichir will eat any fish that can fit in its mouth so don't get one that is so big that it will eat the other fish while they are still young.

you can keep any size bichir you can get. a senegal would do fine and some with an endli, its more about your personal preference. ;)

locally I can find the ornate or albino but they don't specify which sub species the albino's are. how big do the ornate's get and would this be acceptable.

Yes the ornates will be fine, they get the same size as the endlis roughly and the albinos will probably be senegals.

I was able to find a 4" delhezi for 25.00.
its sweet looking any advice on the new fish would be helpfull.

Delhezi Bichir:
Max size - around 12in, not much larger
Activity level - one of the most active bichirs (fun to watch)
Appearance - white/grey with black bands, one of the most beautiful bichirs
Food - any ordinary frozen meaty fish foods, carnivore pellets
Aggressiveness - ALWAYS depends on the individual fish, although the common rule is not to put it with tankmates that can fit in its mouth. we all have different experiences with what they will and will not attack.
Friendliness - my delhezi is also 4" right now and I have trained him to eat out of my hand from the surface or scavenge pellets at the bottom with my senegal

For detailed information on all bichirs in general, check the sticky entitled "Primer"

sengals are cool imo i just got one he is sick

i have 3 seneg, 1 albino, 1 orante and 1 delhezi.. im just wondering if they fil comfortable in my 20 gal aquarium.. because i find my ornate and delhezi always going around the tank.. not like the albino and seneg.. do these behavior cause stress on them?
