i am a noob in sw but have been keeping fw fish since i was in first grade and i am just about to get my first sw fish setup. once i am familiar with sw fish i was thinking about getting a shark. what is the smallest shark available to aquarists. the tank i would be getting is 300 gallons 8ft by 2.5 ft by 2 ft. is this big enough. or should i get a bigger one. if i get a bigger one what should the dimensions be

Honestly, I'd get a year or two of salt water under your belt, then step to sharks. They aren't a great starting animal.

As for your tank, you'll need alot more size for even the smallest sharks in the hobby.

Yeah I agree a couple of years of sw aquarist experience before getting into sharks would be a very good idea.

Possible starting with a nice 75-150 gallon FOWLR tank. Then after a couple of years experience, get a shark pup.

But for keeping a shark for life, you need a wider tank than just 30" wide, even for a small species like a coral/marbled catshark .
