I have 1 extra tank left( besides a aquapod and 5 gallon) and it is 15 gallons. I just started really getting into reptiles and I find that they are insanely easy to care for compared to saltwater fish. This would be my first snake. Would it be a good choice? How handable are these guys and I've heard that they are midly venemous, has anyone ever gotten bit? Experience?

I would need aspen bedding, and a undertank heater and thats it right?(have tank, water dishes, etc)
They dont need special uvb lke turtles, do they? Thanks

Ok, these are rear fanged venomous snakes but its hard to get bitten to beggin with and the poison its very mild, lots of people keep them and hardly anyone is bitten. They are ok with begginers but make shure yours is cb and it eats, a good way to do this is to get a color morph as they are all cb. The equipment you said its ok. They dont need uv.

+1 but yeah pretty much any but the most finicky of snakes would be ALOT easier than saltwater lol, and those snakes are cool but if i were you i would go with something like a ball python they are really personable and handle able, though it would need a bigger tank...

since i got rid of my 265 gallon sw and my other sw tank, My mom doesnt allow me to have big tanks. I dont blame her since im going to college soon. She doesnt really like snakes but i might get away with one that is small. Ill just have to leave out the venemous part.

will you not be taking the snake with you? if you are leaving home soon and don't plan to take it with you then i wouldn't recommend getting any more animals until you have a place to keep them with you (fyi i had baby RES in my dorm room and RA never cared lol, but they were tiny babies so were in like a 10g tank, def couldn't have venomous snake in your dorm lol)i dont know about your mom but i know i def couldnt trust mine with special needs animals just because she doesn't pay as close attention to the small details of their upkeep that i do (which is why i had to sadly get rid of my ball python several years ago when i went to boarding school because i knew she wouldnt get handled at all and would turn mean) oh and ball python would only need like 55g tank, so thats def ton smaller than 265 lol

not to her a 55 gallon is huge, imagine what she thought when i put that 265 in her living room lol, I plan on going to suny potsdam which is about 1 hr and a half from my house. I know I probably wont be coming back every week. But I would come back if necesarry. I think me taking down all my saltwater stuff was a big relief to her, since I knew and she knew that she never would have understood how to keep them alive. She said she would take care of my animals and she will, I wont get anything that she isnt comfortable with say a ball python(which i would love to get, tried like 3 years ago but she was afraid of it eating her cats lol) but a small snake she might be ok with if its eating on thawed mice.

lol they dont get big enough to eat cats haha, but yeah thats cool just def dont tell her about the venemous thing then haha

I'm actually considering one of these snakes too. I have the same issue, my mom hates big tanks, hates snakes... Apparantly all the venom will do is make your arm (or wherever you were bit) swell up a bit.
