I am a rookie when it comes to marine tanks. I have done research and read a lot and seen a lot on this website before just registering. I have been an aquarium enthusiast for years and have had a freshwater setup on and off for the past 10 years going from 10G > 20G > 30G > 55G > 125G tanks.

I intend to do a lot of research before I proceed but I was wondering what sharks do not get large and are suitable for smaller tanks. I am younger and I have not settled into my permanent home so I don't want to build my 'dream' tank of a few thousand gallons just yet. My lease is up in a year anyhow and I will most likely be re-locating to an apartment. Anyways!

I have read a lot about the common sharks that are good in captivity and I was wondering basically which sharks are suitable for smaller sized tanks? Eventually I want to graduate to much larger tanks and much larger animals within them but for now I am looking to feed my hunger for a new project.

Any recommendations on where to buy as well? I have driven and searched and called all over and many of the pet stores around here have a lack of exotic marine types. I haven't seen any sharks yet locally. I am not afraid of a drive so that is an option for local pick-up. I am based out of Cincinnati! Thank you!

Sorry to say but most on here will tell you anykind of shark needs a decent sized tank for life, so you will need to tell the size of tank you are thinking about first. I'm surprized that a city like Cinn. would'nt have a good fish store

Hate to say it, but there are no sharks suitable for small tanks. And I mean small as in 300 gallons is too small. It's more about the footprint so the shark will have room to move and turn around.

even the smallest sharks would require a 300 you think?

I was aiming for like 200-500 G I have room for as much as I want but I don't want a permanent structure. Do you have any recommendations as far as shopping online at supplies for larger tanks? I've been to 4 or 5 different stores and I can't find anything above 175.

Check craigslist or the classifieds here and on other forums for a used tank. They can be had for a fraction of the cost. But honestly, you may want to set up something smaller first (maybe a FOWLR) just to see if you enjoy saltwater. Sharks aren't something you want to jump into right away.
