Hey guys,
I'm thinking on putting two of my NTTs in quarantine and wanted your input on whether its a good idea or not. The reason I want to separate them is because they don't seem to get to eat a lot compared to my other 3 datnoids. All 5 dats are in my 240 currently and they eat shrimp, tilapia and pellets. However, the two smaller dats are more timid compared to the others. So my bigger dats end up eating about 90% of the food and the rest is shared by the two smaller ones. I want to move the smaller ones to two separate 20 gallon QT tanks so that they get to eat more. What do you guys think? Both are around 4" from head to tail.

It couldn't hurt to separate them so they can get their full share of food and grow well from it.Do you mean that you want to place them both in their own twenty gallon tanks, and what are they eating?

Yeah, I want to put each of them in a separate 20 gallon tank. They're eating massivores, shrimp and tilapia. So my thought was to QT them for a couple of months and power feed them.

As previously stated I'm all for separating and power feeding but why not keep them together?

I don't have a big enough QT tank to keep them two together. I only have 2 20 gallon tanks currently and keeping 2 4" dats in a 20 gallon would be a little cramped wouldn't it?

I would try it first and see if they got along,as long as they don't fight that tank is okay for growing them out.

No problemo and keep us posted on how things progress.

Oh man, this was a while back. But yes, I did manage to get them to grow an inch or two (more or less) over a span of 2 months.
