The tank I will be using will be a 130gallon (6'x18"x18")

I'm hoping to add some species from each of the following groups..

amphilophis- prefer a less common/smaller species I might use one of my saggitae
parachromis- again, something smaller/mellow like a loisellei
veija- probably go with synspilum since they're easier to find and they have great colors

and one of each of the following because I know all of them will spawn with just about anything
regular convict (already have a AMAZING male)
herichthys carpinte
female blood parrot (if I can find any decent un-dyed ones)

other things I have that might make it into the mix would be flowerhorns, other hybrids, jack dempseys, green terrors, firemouths, pink convicts, salvini, urophthalmus (mayan), and maybe even a severum.

My perfect fish.. Something nobody has ever done before or something you don't see very often at least. I really love amphilophus stuff. I love their shape, color, and temperament but most of the red devil/midas hybrids turn out pretty standard so I'd like to try some other type of ampilophus. For making a hybrid nothing compares to a carpinte to me. The whole red texas thing just makes me wonder what other kind of cool fish I could come up with.
What do you guys think? What other fish would you suggest or would you remove? Have any of you ever tried this, and if so what have you had success with?

each and every flowerhorn is different. so no-one has the same. so with this in mind for your project everything you cross with a flowerhorn, it makes it still a flowerhorn.

to make something truly special/interesting/rare will take many years/linebreeding and not to mention the amount of money that would be invested. you would have to cull heavily for first couple of years to pick proper traits out to linebreed. you would then want a final product. you would get alot of self gratification seeing them in other ppls tanks, and not just your own.

is this more along the lines your thinking about? or have you not thought about what your trying to get into?

that sounds amazing. i would really wonder what would pair with what. keep us posted!
