I have been thinking about getting a red tesax female as a tank mate for my Kmafa flowerhorn. The tank would be 75 gallon tank, if it doesn't work out I will get another tank for female. Any input on the chances of it working out (none, slim, good)? Or any other species I should try first (I am not sure about parrots because of the deformed look).

The tank is in Seattle and I am still in Raleigh. Will be moving there in 1.5 months. My friend has a tank and wants to experiment if she can keep a fish till I go take the tank. Worst case scenario I will donate the fish.

two mixed experiments, my friend trying to figure out if she wants a fish and me trying out it as a tank mate later.

Depends but I’d say the chances are closer to slim. Your chances are much better with a female blood parrot. I like the look they have but yeah some can look a little two deformed and it is unattractive.

unless your luck is anything like Fishenvy Fishenvy ‘s

Thank you. I assume the female might be too aggressive is the worry. Is blood parrot the best bet?

That or the other other way around. Yes I’d say a bp is your best bet unless you want to go through the process of starting them off with a divider to let them get used to each other and then eventually remove it but even that can be unsuccessful.

Thank you. What size the blood parrot should be? Flowerhorn is at 5 inches currently. It would be challenging to sex/get a female for sure.

The thing is my friend will be getting one in Seattle and neither us of have sexed a fish before. May be LFS would help.
Maybe but I wouldn’t count on it. Do some research on venting and specifically blood parrots. A 3-4 inch parrot with there body shape shouldn’t be hard to vent.

My friend is the one who will be getting one. When I move to Seattle I am going to move the tank and the fish to whatever place I get there. Have to carry my flowerhorn on the plane.
