I like the look of blackwater tanks and would like to turn my RBPs tank into a blackwater tank. I've seen people use peat moss and also blackwater extract. I'm not worried about lowering the ph or anything, just simply want a more natural look (stained color water). Is this a good idea or not. Do I have to worry about any harm to my RBPs?

I've never used this any of these methods before so please help me out.

Anyone?

No negative side effects. The RBP's will probably feel more comfortable in a blackwater environment. I've used the extract before but for some reason it seems to get filtered out after a few days (no carbon or anything). I've also heard of people using Indian almond leaves instead of peat moss

you can either soak them in the tank or can boil them to make your own "BWE". as the moss/leave decades it'll effect your water parameter just like any other organic waste so keep an eye on the parameter so you know how often you need to change water before it comes too bad. and make sure change pH slowly so you don't shock your fish.

Ok so it will be good for them if I use the moss instead of the extract? And is it better to boil it instead of putting it in my filters?

Like JP said, boiling is the best way to go as it prevents you from having to constantly remove the moss that's decaying

Ok, we're is the best place to get the moss? I've had people tell me to get it from a lps so you know it's safe for pets. I've also had people tell me places like home depo as long as its all organic.

I've always used microbe lift Amazon Bio Colorant. Fish safe just adds a good shade. http://www.affordableaquatic.com/?main_page=product_info&products_id=228
