I've been thinking of setting up my old 55g (that I was originally going to sell) for my Dats to have more room to grow. I've been thinking of getting another canister filter. I already have Fluvals and they all work great, but for some reason, I'm thinking of going with another brand. Eheims are too pricey for me and I've been hearing mix feeling about the Rena xP series. I was thinking of JBJ Canisters, but looks like no one really has any experience here with those.

So...besides Fluval and Eheims, what would you guys suggest for a canister?

I've heard majority of people saying that they like the xP2 and xP3, but I always hear people complaining about the xP4

Xp4 is worthless in comparison to the XP3. You don't get a value for the money IMHO. Go with an XP3. I just bought two!

I've always been confused on how an xP4 sucks, but the lower models are better:confused:

Id give the marine land C series a try. I hear nothing but good things about them.

Disclaimer I don't own one yet :( Just one of the first things that comes to mind for me that is in your parameters.

assuming that past impeller issues have been fixed, the main problem with the XP4 vs the XP3 is that for all the extra money you pay for the XP4, you only get small increase in media space. they just added a top basket, but kept the base size of the canister the same.

so instead of making the largest model taller and wider, for a big increase in media volume, they just made it slightly taller, so you don't really get much more for your money.

the extra flow rate is nice, but the XP3's already have pretty good flow.

I love my XP3's though:headbang2

I heard it's noisey and leaking issues on the Marineland C5. However, Marineland customer service is top notch. I used nothing but XP3 and Eheim. The Eheim are more expensive but the quality say a lot about the price.
