ok so i got a 5g from the garage.. its plastic... but only one light works.. something happened to the right side the metal plate is gone and look like the plastic in the light housing warped in two spots ((is still level))... what im wondering is, is there a plant that can work with little lighting with one bulb.. and be safe with a common pleco

a java fern or anubias plant might work in the low-light - - do you know how many watts the bulb puts out? is it flourescent or incandescent?

and you cannot keep a common pleco in a 5G, it will get much, much, much too big

15w from marina

i know the pleco will get big, i have a 6incher in my 20g..

i was thinking of shrimp.. but i dont know

((yes the stand has hearts.. i took that from mom as a temp stand.. lol))

No on the pleco in the 5 gallon. Plants need spectrum as well as lumens. Get a compact fluorescent bulb. The Hagen (company that makes marina, fluval, exoterra etc) has a repti-glo bulb that is twist fluorescent, 2.0 reptile bulb. This is 6700K, and fluorescent. Use this instead of the bulb you have.

agree 100% . . . go with a CF bulb over incandescent . . . then start with some low-light plants and go from there . . .
