Hi. I just had a tank built that is 96"L x 24"D x 30"H. I never had a tank this big so I don't know anything about Aros. I just know that it must be one of the "smaller" type as I don't want it to be stressed out trying to turn around because it only has 2 feet to do this. I don't like the Silvers and like the red colored ones. Can also be other types, but just don't like plain Silver. Do they all despise tankmates (other that cats)? I heard there are some that are ok with tank mates. Also, my pH is 8.5. I keep Discus in this water and they are fine, but are Aro ok? Your opinions please!

well, the silver is the mose peaceful and will take a while to get to 2 ft, the jardini grows slower and gets every so slightly smaller than the silver but they are highly aggressive there is also a black or blue arowana which is like the silver only a bit more aggressive.
hope this helps!

The red ones are asian aro's you better have a fat wallet if you want any type of asian. I have a jardini some people say they are very agressive i have mine with other fish but they grew up together. Trial and error but i have a feeling my luck is going to run out he's 13-14''now.
If your from the northern part of alberta you should pm me!! :headbang2

The silver is the most peaceful but grows very large.

The smallest aro is the jardini, however they are known to be really agressive towards tankmates. There are excepetions where they will accept tankmates but you will have to discover that for yourself.

The red aro you are talking about is more than likely a asian aro. They are very expensive!!

A tank that is two feet wide will house an aro for a long time assuming you buy it small. I see you are from Canada and a majority of the Asian aros that come in there are in the six inch range. You would be fine for a couple of years.

Hi. A friend told me to go with Silver or Black. And looks like that is the common concensus. My only concern is the fish out growing the tank. I will never get a bigger tank and I don't want to have to part with this guy after he's been with me for years. I heard the Silver or Black are more flexible and can turn around so much better than the others. I just wanted something with a little color. He said try the Salmon Silver. I am still worried about its size, but he said it should not get much bigger than 2 feet in captivity. So, is this true? It's nice I can keep tankmates with it. I plan on Rainbowfish and Central AMerican cichlids (Jack Dempeys, etc). I'm kinds scared! These fish are so intimidating. I def will get a little baby.

Well eventually your rainbowfish will get eaten but he will be OKwith them for a while, i have my 6 incher in with 4 rainbows.
you sould be fine with JDs and it will take a yr and a hlf maybe 2 yrs to out grow your tank. (about 26inches)

Whatever aro you get its a great fish to keep, just be sure to cover all tank holes no matter how small the opening!!!
