I been searching all day, and the ADA style stand is what im after.

Till a idea came up, and i thought i ask some DIYers for advice.

But i was wondering, since i wont be using the extra cabinet space since its a pretty low tech setup. I want to build not really a stand, i guess legs over a my mini fridge to free up even more space in my room.

The tank is about 24" x 15".

Mini fridge is 19 1/2" x 18" (door hinges take up about 5" so i really have 19 1/2" x 13" of flat surface)

I was wondering if this mini fridge would be able to hold up the weight with added supports of course. I had a 10gal sitting on it once, but thats only a 10gal.

Any design ideas? I gotta run so im typing this quick, il be back later and hopefuly i have a design figured out.

Thanks

I wouldn't put the tank directly in contact with the fridge. The constant vibration and occasional jostling from opening and shutting the door of the fridge might cause trouble. Besides, a tank mainly needs to be supported at the corners, not in the middle.

A stand for a tank that size need not be complicated. Four pieces of 1/2" or thicker plywood can be formed into a box (open in front and back) into which you can place the fridge. A diagonal strip of plywood or 1X2 across the back completes the stand.

Another issue to be aware of with the fridge is the amount of heat it puts out. Just be sure to maintain good air flow around the back of the frdge to disperse the heat.

Yeah, I used Google Sketchup. It's handier for these sorts of things than Paint.net or the GIMP.

This is my first time using Google Sketchup. Can you show me how i turn the finished sketch into a uploaded img/png format?

I decided the heat from the mini fridge will be a big problem, cause it does get pretty hot randomly. So im just going to trash the idea. Sorry for waisting your time.

Heres the new thread on a ADA style stand im going for, check it out and give me some input on that if you can.

i thought you were using your fridge as a diy chiller for your aquarium

I wouldnt do it. spend the 20 or so bucks in lumber and build one. I wouldnt use plywood either, overtime it will get wet and warp and crumble. Those two words send shivers down my spine when thinking about a tank full of water.
