i ve been toying with the idea since i bought my first house last year of putting a pond in the backyard. i have a 10" butterfly koi and 7" comit in my moms pond that is a bit small for them. Only problem is i can"t convince my wife to let me do it. she thinks it will hurt resale value later on. i said i could just fill it in if we move.

that's what i tried to tell her. water features are good sellers for most people. we looked at at house that had a preformed liner setting out in the yard and that was one thing i asked for the owner to leave if offer accepted, and she was for it. WTF

Landscaping, bathrooms and kitchens when done properly, have almost a 100% ROI.

Good landscaping can increase home values by 5-15%.

An above ground pond can be taken with down the road.

As long as the pond is done well and landscaped nicely, it will add resale value to the house (or at the worst, not decrease it).

Just make sure that the maintenance is pretty low, because if its very involved or difficult to clean the filter(s), then it will end up neglected and not looking so good.

And if a future owner doesn't like it, you can always offer to fill it in for them, or they can fill it in themselves. Dirt is pretty cheap these days...

Well I just took the butterfly koi and 2 common plecos that I forgot were in my moms pond out. The koi measured 13" and both plecos 11". Now that I have them I'm hoping it will help convince her to let me do the pond.
