So here is the idea
tell me what you think.
the tank will be a giant L shaped plywood and glass. each side of the tank will be 8' long at the back and 5'6" in the front
the depth of the tank will be 30 inches front to back and it will be at least 24" tall
maybe 30"
should be about 505 gallons at 24" tall

so do think this is possible
should i build it with 2x4 bracing

just a dream now but i am planning something like this soon i hope

anything is possible! i love oddly shaped tanks. rectangles are soo out. ;) go taller if you can, they look nicer.

That is possible. I have a friend with an "L" shapped tank. It is right around 400 gallons. Has a monster cat fish in it right now.

hope you go threw with it

I have seen them. They look really nice when done. And very impressive too.

"L" shaped tanks are nice but for a first time DIY project they can be troublesome. A box tank might be easier. At 24" high 2" by 4" bracing should be adequate but the frame spacing and top and bottom support timbers are critical. If you go higher than 24" think about using 2" by 6" timbers. As you go higher the glass thickness requirements increase. A 30" tall glass window should be at least 1/2" thick. Call your local glass company and get a price on an 8 foot by 30" plate glass or float glass window. There is no need to get a coffee table quality ground edge but an inexpensive quick sanding for safety in handling might be advisable.

I think he could pull it off. He already has a very nice DIY 180 built into his wall :grinyes:
