Thinking of buying a red wolf fish

I've gotten bored of my demasoni group, all they do is hide, eat, and kill eachother. I'm planning on getting rid of them tomorow.
The tank is only 29 gallons so once the wolf outgrows it he'll either have my 75 to himself or go in my 120 cichlid tank.
Is a red wolf fish a good option? Will it work in a 29 for part of his life (until he passes 5")? And if a wolf is not going to work what is a (preferabely) colorful fish with personality that can go in a 29?

Red wolf should be fine alone but I would say they have personality. Sounds like you will get bored with him too.

Ok, what could I keep in that tank that has personality? In all the you tube videos I've watched of them they are always swimming around and finger chasing. Is that only at feeding time?

I never had a red wolf yet but my mala is a greedy pig he does the same as in those videos. I thought I would get bored with him but I didn't

Red wolves have plenty personality, I have one that likes to beg, and enjoys watching me as much as I watching him. But they aren't quite as active as a cichlid. Maybe consider some of the smaller to medium ca/sa cichlids too if your looking for something active and personable to grow from your 29g to 75g.

I've had my red wolf for over 6 months now and haven't lost interest in him, he's always watching, flutters like a puffer, jumps like a rabbit and is pretty smart.

They can be on the other side of the tank in the blink of an eye, so be careful cleaning mine goes for my fingers although I think that may be from hand feeding it since I got it.. I also liked to play tug o war with mine when it was smaller, it would grab a worm in my fingers and yank and I would yank back and so on until the worm split.. now that its around 8 inch it snaps whole earthworms in half so no hand feeding lol

A 29 is fine I grew mine out in a 30 from 3-5 inch and its doing good, grown from 3 inch to 8 inch in about 6 1/2 months and started eating pellet a couple months ago, his color is much better now.

I think a wolf is right for me. I've also seen purple or gold wolvves for sale, is their care similar to the red ones? Also, where could I buy one?

Gold wolves get larger so you'd need a bigger tank, Peruvian purples should get about the same length but I've heard they get thicker then regular erythrinus. Care-wise I don't see why it would be much different
