guys, im thinking of getting a flowerhorn but im really new to the species. what variety should i get, i mean are there really established varieties? coz my experience in the hobby is mostly on arowanas and the varieties there are more or less clear cut. and how should i do the set-up?

Be aware, most FH's are very aggressive. They may not mix well in a community, depending on what, if anything, you keep them with.

if you have been keeping new world cichlids for some time now, and are looking to "broaden" your collection i must recommend a KAMFA breed.

if you are NEW to CICHLIDS, and have never owned new world cichlids, then i must have to recommend a ZZ breed. that way you do not spend a ton of money and you can familiarize yourself with care and such. before stepping up to more expensive fish.

as for tank setup for life i'd have to recommend at least 75gal preferably with NO other fish, except maybe a mate. of course the bigger the tank the more options you have.

75 gallon is big enough for a pair of FH?
No,125 would be the smallest for a pair.75 would be ok for a single specimin

What about just for breeding?
Say adding the female to the 75 with male then taking her out once they have bred?

tanx for the help guys. and yeah, i know not to do any mixing with other fishes...

if they grow along with other fish with equivalent aggression sometimes you can keep them in comm tanks
as of now i keep a flame FH along with my ca/sa and my polys
