This guy brought back a gar to my lfs when I was helping out down there. I want to say that he is maybe 10" or so. I believe it to be a spotted possibly florida but more than likely a spotted. I can get him for dirt cheap due to my relationship with the owner (good friends). He would be going into my 125. Yay or nay? Stock will be a festae pair and a school of clown loaches. Advisable or no? He seems to be pretty laid back and just looks awesome. Any input would be cool. I will try and get pics the next time I go down,

Should be fine provided that you can give it at least a 180 gallon aquarium in the future. The only other thing that I would worry about is the fact that you have a pair of cichlids; they may stress out the gar.

As for the ID, I'd say that it's a Florida gar if it was from an LFS to start; if it was wild-caught up north around you, then I can almost guarantee that it's a spotted gar.

No guarantee that the loaches will be safe either.

Was waiting for one of you guys to chime in. Thanks for the input. The loaches are a bit bigger than the gars mouth but probably not for long as they do grow fast for awhile. I will keep you guys updated on him/her.

depends on festae pair imo... never trust a cichlid.. and never trust a cichlid pair. They may ignore the gar or may start hammering it.
