im thinking of getting a peacock bass. would a 45 gallon be good to keep one in? if not, what would be?

A 45 would work for a couple of months if you buy one under 2".

Search through the forum, we talk about this all the time. 2'+ wide.. So 45g is around 200g short of what you really want to keep them for life....

my two are in a 45g. When I first got them they were 1.5", skittish and shy. now two months later they are 6 inches.

The tank looks big enough for them when you stand back at a distance and they are just hovering in the middle but when you approach the glass and they know they are getting fed they dart back and forth really fast and it's obvious I need a bigger tank.

Do these fish the honor they deserve and get them a big tank.

(going to put half down on my 150g tonight!!!)

What did you feed them when they were 1.5" ?

guppies, then rosies

they are still on rosies because they refuse to eat anything else except frozen blood worms and they dirty the tank too much. They will take dried krill because it looks like rosies but they spit it out before they take any in. They won't even look at thawed market shrimp. I'm reluctant to starve them to get them on pellets so they will get minnows until I think they are hearty enough to try the switch.

I have a good start on switching them though, because they will take minnows right out of my hand and aren't bothered by my presence in the tank anymore.

not for life.. like they guys said.. a few months

just get two Really small Pbass for your 45 then you have an excuse to get a 240.

it's my plan...
