So my lfs has royal knives for $50 and I'm thinking of scooping one.

My question is, has anyone ever kept knives with datnoids?

I have some AT dats that get quite aggressive at times...especially when there is competition for their hide spot. I absolutely fell in love with the royals and would love to get one, but I don't want to risk injuring such a beautiful fish.

Thanks in advance.

It will work if they are the same size....May not work later on when the royal outgrows the Dat.

I figured that may be true. That's fine though because they will be separated anyway...I just don't have the room for my Dat tank (4th Dat tank actually) just yet.

Forgot to ask this too:

Do you guys think $50 for a Royal about 6" or so is a good price?

They should get along fine. Just make some more hiding spots. My Dats leave the other fish alone...they just like picking on each other. :irked:

it would be cool to mix dats and knives, also plannin to mix indo dats with my knives,if only i have the budget for it,dats are bit expensive here i guess they are expensive everywhere

I totally agree...I think that would be a nice little set-up. Maybe I'll scoop him up then. I have a TON of hide spots in there...mainly for the dats, but I have big 3 foot piece of driftwood that I think would work well for the CK.

Dats do get a bit expensive...but I think they are worth every penny.

As soon as I pick this bad boy up, I'll post some pics.

Thanks again guys.:headbang2

i'm keeping my 5" royal knife with a 5" indo tiger along with a 5" ornate bichir, a sargasso eel, 2 decorus catfish, a 5" gibbiceps pleco, and a 3" feeder goldfish (that managed to evade the preds when it was 1" and has grown to this size). they all get along well but this set up is temporary 'cos this is just a grow out tank @50 gals. they will all be moved to a much bigger tank (180 gallons) sooner or later.

by the way, i got my royal knife @u.s.$10.00, but i live in east asia so they are much cheaper. so there.:D
