thinking of getting a true monster catfish..!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if you can support the fishes needs.......then go for it.

I wouldn't mix the wells and RTC they require completely different habitats. If you want something that can max out at 5ft plus and shares the same water requirements look towards a RTCxTSN, Jau, Piraiba, Planiceps, or Coruscans. The Piraiba growth rate though is slow compared to the others listed above and the Jau are mean as hell and could potentially kill your RTC if not given enough space. You should be preparing a 1000 gallon + pond if you plan on housing them for more than a year or so.

I want a wels too....if you find somewhere to by one give me a shout!!!

True to house it for life but even the most avid of monster catfish keepers seldom keep a fish for it's lifespan and even fewer have tanks over 5000 gallons. Necro has been keeping his hybrid in a 1000 gallon tank comfortably for quite some time now and its over 3ft in length and 35lbs+. The growth rates of all of the larger catfish species slow dramatically once the fish hits 2ft in length, you can get a RTC or a hybrid to 2ft in under a year easily but it will take you another 1-2 years to get that next foot and even longer after that.

Go for it but you better have a 20k tank if you do get the wels you have my fav catfish.

Housing it long term is no prob, lots of places like wels for sport fishing...

im planning a pond out of 10 foot by 7-8 foot wide and about 3-4foot deep mad with concreat it will take a whille so i think un less i can get a baby i wont get 1 yet dose any 1 no the growth rate on these fish ?? i no were 2 get them from :D but the will be a bout 2 foot long the bloke has had them for a long time he feeds them dead fish like roach and goldfish ect .....
:)
