Im thinking about getting myself a couple (1-2) AT from the lfs for 20$ @ about 3in. Anyone else has a few adult size or grown size 10+in? How does the AT dat compare to the other dats?
IMO, AT dats grow up kinda fugly. Personally, NTT and NGT look to best, ST is king but very rare and expensive. IT look good too when bars are visible.
Yep,AT are the cheep, ugly ducklings of the datnoid world. They are the least popular but it is not due to their considerable pros.....they are usually very active, hardly hide unlike some of the other species and they usually take well to pellet training.
I recently saw a ten incher that I was tempted to buy.
Personally love them and not just in the ugly duckling way. I think they have a somewhat sharper look than other datnoids and it really sets them apart from the others in a unique way. Also to echo krichardson, they do seem to be quite active on a more regular basis than the other dats.
One recommendation I would make would be to plan ahead and make sure possible tankmates would sit well in a tank that should eventually have a fair amount of salt in it. I don't believe it would necisarrily need to be a brackish tank as I've heard of a few larger AT who thrived in full fresh, no salt at all but they do seem to die off around the 6-8" range and salinity may be a contributing factor.
