I have a outdoor pond thats about 8 feet long 3 feet wide largest section and 2 feet wide and about 3 feet deep. can i keep a gar(shortnose or spotted) there during the winter?

nothing maybe catfish. Was going to be deeper and larger but ran into a drainage pipe so had limitation think of making a little channel over the pipe and connecting another larger pond.

I know someone in socal that has 2 300watt heaters in the winter for his tropical pond and he has gar in there- If the winter air at night is in the 50s Id heat it because the waters not deep enough to insulate well so it will most likely have water temps in the 40s

If you do dig out your pond around the pipe dont let to much pipe show without dirt holding it still or it may bust. Just a thought, I work at a golf course and it happens. It may not matter on a lawn system though.

I have had gar in the past and the shortnose/spottednose are the smallest at around 25 inches, spotted max out at like 45 and longnose and gator gar get massive. Have fun.
