I have him on hold right now...he is about 5 inches and $40.00..beautiful fish but is this a good price..and can one be kept alone with other different cichlids instead of more sexatilis pikes..or should they be kept in a small group? Any info would be appreciated ..thanks !:D

its a good price i had one but had to get ride of him because he was so aggresive i mean he was mean i paid 12 49 for him because i work at my lfs and get 50% brought him back and now he is almost 40 and he is about 4 inches. they have really nice personalitys, and if u do get him u will be happy.

He was that aggressive? I would be putting him in with red devil and oscar and 2 black bellts..all about 5 inches too..do you think i would have problems with aggression with these guys ?

how big of a tank are you puting in, i had him in my 55 to grow out he was with my texas 2 dats and aro and he beat on the texas and dats and then started going after my aro which was double his size, I think in your mix it should work just make sure you have a lot of hiding places. gl with him if you get him i miss him but he was just to mean.

They just dont do well with other pikes. A saxi will do great with that lineup. Just add in some small lengths of pvc just in case so it can hide if it feels threatened. But I think that it should be just fine.

Thanks thats awesome!!

Nail it Lizzard!! Can you get any pictures of it? Would hate for you to pay $40 for a 5" sp.'bellycrawler'. Really, thats still a little high for a Saxatilis of that size, normally they should be in the $15 to $25 range. All depends on availability though.

Pikes aren't for everyone though...;). Some people just can't handle them, which really doesn't make much sense to me. They are no worse than most aggressive CA cichlids, and people are still keeping them. Anyway, they can be aggressive, but generally are pretty tolerant of other fish species. I've kept mine with all types of fish, so no worries. Saxatilis pikes are generally 'less' aggressive than their Lugubris 'cousins'. So thats a plus!! With those types of tank mates though, especially the blackbelts, you might want to consider larger pikes. Or you could just move the fish around as they get larger! ;)

Personally, I think pikes look BEST as pairs. They just compliment each other with their colors, interactions, and attitudes. It can be difficult getting pairs some times though, which is a lot of the reason people keep them solo. They generally don't like other pikes, but it can be 'managed'. Most of the time, you buy a group of juv. pikes and grow them up together. It spreads the aggression out, they are able to pair up, and then you just get rid of the others. Not exactly simple, but a whole lotta fun!! :D

BTW...Welcome to the DarkSide!!! You're going to LOVE it!!

Thank you peanut......... this is a whole lot of info and very good that i can consider thiis pike.. he is speckled all over and beautiful..my bb's are not aggressive because their is enough going on in the tank to keep them busy and distracted so that will probably be fine..thanks again..i will let you know if all works out.i cannot do a few of them as i already have my other fish growing big..
