I'm thinking of getting a brackish tank, sooner rather than later if my Coldwater tank fully crashes :-/ I'd be looking at an initial tank size of around 24 inches long by 18 by 18 so just a grow out for now... I know that I want a puffer and an eel, so was thinking a figure of eight puffer, a snowflake eel and some gobies of some description. The tank will be upgraded when I get space in about 2 years time. Would my stocking ideas work? Are there any other fish that would work? I definitely want a wet pet, but I would miss the community aspect of my fw tank. I'm completely new to anything other than fw, however, I do have a largish community tank (100l - will become my pulchra tank in September) and a juvenile pulchra (about 4 inches) in a 70l tank. I enjoy looking after and doing maintenance on my tanks, so that doesn't bother me. Anyway, any help or advice people can give would be appreciated... Oh, the other thing I would like if at all possible would be a catfish...

snowflake eels grow pretty fast, they don't need a lot of space but they could live happily in a 40g breeder. I can't imagine the eel would be fine in that size tank for 2 years... I imagine the fish would be fully grown by then.

Fig 8 should be fine though, as would the various brackish goby's (except violet goby who grow pretty huge)

Hmmm, I might have to see if I can fit a slightly bigger tank in that flat then, I don't want to get anything that will be cramped, I would rather have less space than the fish have less space... Thanks very much, wish I could get a huge tank now :(

even a 55 would be more than good enough, or a 40 breeder would be good too/ You don't need a giant tank!

Hmmm, ok thanks, I will sick to roughly my original plan then, I mean, I'm living in a studio flat next year that is miniscule, so I suppose giant would be stupid, I will try and get a rack made that can house two or three t tanks and get them at about 40 gallons, that should keep all my fish happy for a while... Thank you :) (just a quick query, the puffer won't nip finds will it?)

Puffers are nippy in general and a lot of people say don't house them with other fish but the sheer amount of testimony from keepers and videos on youtube of brackish communities including puffers is staggering.

Just keep them together and watch to see. If they nip then seperate them. I find that GSP are a lot friendlier than figure 8's and less nippy, but that is only MY experience. I currently have a green spot puffer in a marine set up with 2 monodactylus kottelatai some black mollys, 2 clowns and a goby, puffer ignores EVERYONE.

ALso how is your channa pulchra doing? I was going to get one for my 225 but opted for the micropeltes instead

Thanks :)
He's doing so well at the moment, growth rate at about an inch a month I think, and his colours are coming out great :) ooh, nice :) how's he doing? Micropeltes are gorgeous :)
