I lost one of my two oscars a few days ago to columnaris. The other may be on his way out. Before the oscars I had two channel catfish for about a year, but a silly mistake killed one and the other jumped to his death.

Normally I would go buy another oscar or something of that size, but Im not sure what to do. My fiance bought me a 60 gallon setup for christmas, but she wants something in it with personality, but something that will be active. My oscars were always lazy.

So the question is, What can I put in a 60gallon tank that will be active and fun to watch, but still have some personality? I am even willing to do a small school of small fish. Any suggestion is fair game. Thanks

Criteria:
Can live its full life in 60 gallons of water
Active
has personality
can get at least 2-3 in the tank

severums , in time you can handfeed them , the swim alot and lot's of colour.

this is relevant to my iterests.

In the event that my remaining oscar lives through this, how many severums would be comfortable with the oscar and a pleco?

Well... whats wrong with your oscar? I think saving your oscar should be your first priority. Not creating a stock for when he is passed away. Just my 2 cents.

Columnaris seems to be the issue.

I will be stocking my new tank with some friends for him whether he lives or not. I am doing everything in my power to save him, but it is not looking good. I am moving in about 2 weeks so it will be at least a month before anything goes into the 60gal anyway. For now its just one oscar and one pleco in my old 50 gal. I am just trying to get an idea of what I can do with the new tank.

Previously I would just by fish that looked "cool" and I always end up with too big a fish or something that I dont know how to take care of. I just figured id come on here and try to find something that I could sit and watch, and interact with and just all around enjoy.

Hopefully my oscar will pull through, and if so he will be making the move with me and into the brand new 60gal setup.

Heres the new setup that these will be going into, minus the chairs and background and all the stuff inside the tank.
