Hey all whats shakin. I have a 55Gal that I am about to upgrade to a 6x2x2ft tank (I dunno gallon-age because my friend found it at a yard sale for $20 and gave it to me) and I have 2 Geophagus about 6-8" and an asian clown knife slightly larger, maybe 10"... and I was wondering if a Pike cichlid would be a good addition to the tank and if so what kinds to look into... thanks everyone

PS - pH usually around 7.2, slightly hard water, nitrates, -ites, and ammonia always well within safe levels, temp usually 75-80degrees F.

damn lucky you found a 180 for 20 bucks?:WHOA:

well het a johanna i like those or some of the rarer species if you can find one

You just got a 180 for 20 bux, HELL YES you should get pike, maybe 2. Check out sone of the nicer looking lugubris pikes. You wont regret it.

hey thanks guys for the quick and informative response. I used to work at a LFS so I'll be bugging the hell out of the fish order guy to go pick me out a couple nice ones in the next couple of weeks...

PS - I normally feed flake-crisp things in the morning and cichlid delight or whatever that SFB frozen food is called at night, medicated with metronidazole and focus for my jurupari who is recovering from a serious hold-in-the-head thing... and occasionally some live tuffies or GF. is this adequate for pikes?

You would probably want feed the pikes some good sinking pellets like Hikari's Carnivore or Massivore ( depending on the size of the pike ) and a lot of fresh/frozen(thaw first!) seafood, especially shrimp and cheap fish fillets. Blood worms, night crawlers and krill (freeze dried or frozen ) are also great.

Also remember that pikes can be very sensitive to water quality. Stay on top of water params. But definitely get a pike or 2 they are great fishand fun to watch eat.

most pikes adapt pretty quickly to the water unless they've been shipped around quickly. or you just have horrible water.

you could do 2 maybe 3 pikes. if ya want just one though you're most likely gonna need one the CK wont try to chomp in half. like a 8"+ Lugubris pike; Cincta, Cobra, Xingu I, Lenticulata or Marmorata.

Yup, in a 180, look for some Lents, maybe a few and try to get a pair, then give all of us in the pike forum free fry. LOL
