Im thinking of starting my own fish store in NE IL or SE WI. I want to see what everyone thinks about this. I feel like we don't have any good stores around me there's a few in northern Milwaukee and a few in Chicago but nothin in between I think we need it. Let me know what you think

Just remember that what is a good store to you and to us at mfk is not whats realistically going to make you money in a fish store. While in your head you want to stock "cool" monsters your bread and butter fish are going to be livebearers, goldfish and african cichlids. If your willing to cater to what your average customer is going to be with also having cool stuff for mfker then go nuts its a great idea. I hope i made some sense.

There was, for years (maybe still is) a store just east of 94 on the main drag into Kenosha, I would stop in when passing thru, last time was 3 or 4 years ago.
He always had some relatively large red devils, frontosas, JDs, occasionally a stingray or 2, but his space was limited.
You may want to talk to the owner to see what he had to do to make it.

Yea that makes sense I actually worked at one of the local petstores so I know that the small community fish are the "bread and butter" fish but with the big box stores ability to sell the for much less then what you can as a private you need the oddballs to get the people in. The store I worked in I made the fish department double the profit in like 6 months. I would also try to partner with rapps and Dave's fish and local breeders (gcca) for good stock

plan it our first, you're preparation would be a great help if you're really going at it. I'd say if you really would then better prepare and breed and do a lot of research. It means what would be the case if you don't have sales for months, or even what to do for shipments and everything. =) Hoping for the best!

I think you might be referring to jims aquarium on hwy50 and greenbay road I think that's the only local store in Kenosha and his prices are a bit high
