I have never owned one but have much experience with large fish. I have a 600 gallon with just stingrays and looking for a big center show fish. I like the gold and black colouring of them and was wondering what species would fit this bill. Not looking for something crazy expensive, just looking for something colourful. Thanks in advance.

Well, dats can grow very large but it takes years for them to do so .If you can find a nice sized adult for sale,in the range of twelve inches or bigger it might cost you a couple hundred dollars....and that is for an indo as the other dat species would cost more.
The thinbar dats -NTT have a really nice golden or creamy body color and their bars get very thin when they reach large sizes.

Once you try dats you won't go back, like rich mention the NTT has a a nice golden color and won't break bank the other choice is Indo some has nice patterns and color. I find NTT are not aggressive and are kinda shy at first.
