I have never done plants but I am curious at trying them. My son has a 10 gallon tank standard lighting. I don't want to do Java Moss but thinking of trying Java fern or Anubias. With a 10 gallon tank should I just try maybe 1 of each to see what I like and if I can even grow anything lol. I read the sticky's but what would you guys recommend for a fertilizer for a beginner. I also will not be running CO2.

For a low light, setup, there is no need for co2, nor fertilizers, unless you don't have any fish in the tank.

Ok cool No fertillizers even better I do have fish a Swordtail and some tetras and a betta. Cool thanks WyldFya I think I gonna have fun with this.

By standard lighting do you mean incandescent? I have only been able to keep duckweed w/that low wattage. If it is a 18" fluorescent bulb, Anubias and the Java's should work.

Incandescents are screw in bulbs, and are standard for house lighting. Flourescent lighting is what is standard for stores.

I have heard of people trying to see how long the anubias and java could servive in complete darkness, the last I had heard it was going strong at 3 months.. so its a good one to start with thats for sure

Cool I am excited I would try it in my other tank but I have a Oscar in there that I have a feeling would tear things apart. I am thinking of possibly finding a 30-55 and trying a complete planted tank if I can get some plants to grow in the 10.
