thinking to get a platinum gar

im thinking to get a platinum gar, currently i have

- 1 SR aro 40cm
- 2 oscars +/- 30cm
- 3 pbass mono 30cm+
- 2 pbass temne 30cm+
- 1 pbass azul 25cm
- 1 pbass kelbe 30cm+
- 1 endli bichir 30cm+

For the long term, will it be ok if i add a gar?

Current tank is a 285 gal tank but im now building a 9,000 gal tank. And it should be ready within the next couple months.

I would not recommend the combination.

Depending on which species of gar you get there are a couple potential issues. The two most common species to see in the platinum colouration are Florida and alligator gars.

Alligator gars will grow very large very fast and are known to be aggressive. They could end up killing your other stock before outgrowing your tank.

Floridas on the other hand are pretty passive and run the risk of being bullied my your more aggressive stocking. This can lead to a broken back and a dead gar.

If you had the larger tank set up already it would be far more likely to work out than the 285 that you currently have.

Its a non issue. I have owned both gars and always house them with PBass,Bichirs and aros. Its a pretty common combination.

adult gar could reach 100-150cm, where aro is just around 60-70cm, pbass 60-90cm. the gar will outgrow them 1.5x-2x their size regardless. that's what i am concerned. for the time being im positive 99% the combo will work, but how about in the future?

Like troy said it'll be fine we had a 2 foot gator with a 16" green it was fine
