I want to add a HOB filter to my 180, but I didn't plan ahead and put the tank pretty close to the wall when I set it up. I've already tried to get one of my spare biowheel 350's behind and it won't fit.

Currently the tank has dual FX5's and a bubble wand. I want to take out the bubbles and use the HOB filter for more surface agitation. Plus, I always like having a HOB to supplement my canisters.

Anyways, does anyone know of a worthwhile HOB filter that's thinner than the penguin 350? I might have 3"s of space behind the tank.

Failing a thinner filter, any suggestions on how to safely more a 180 gallon tank 2" forward?

Thanks!
John

Marineland makes a dual bio wheel setup for the magnum 350. It hooks to return pipe and looks like hob filter. Its very thin. You could power it with your fx or with a in tank pump. If you use your return line i suggest adding a T run one line to your regular outlet the other to the bio wheels. All the wheels use is a spray bar to power them so without the T youll cut back your flow rate. I dont know of much else that will fit in that little space.

Thanks! I have family in Hampton, so head down that way from time to time. It would be awesome to meet up with a fellow MFK'r.
In regards to the filter, that is a brilliant idea. I used to have a magnum 350 with dual biowheels on my Oscar tank. I sold it though.
Last night I just decided to man up. Opened a beer; rolled up my sleeves; drained 30ish gallons out of the 180; and managed to pull the whole set-up another inch away from the wall. This allowed me to use one of the penguin 350's I have lying around.
Thanks for the advice though. I will remember that in the future.

Get in touch with me when you come in the area Im in Newport News, always like meeting fellow MFK people. I know moving the tank was a pain. I had to do the same thing with a 150, was not fun. I managed to get my knee pinned between the tank and the wall, that only add to my enjoyment. I told myself when I set it up to leave room for hobs but forgot.
