typically speaking which are cheaper, Henlei or Leopoldi? Or are they usually the same in price? Is there anyone out there breeding them and selling at an affordable price? This is the only ray I really want but don't have $1k for them...thanks!

Generally I would think Henleis are cheaper. Keep looking. Don't compromise by buying one in ill health. It aint worth it.
thanks for the info...I'm thinking I'll wind up with a motoro simply because someone local breeds them and they're much more affordable but I'd love to own one of these black beauties.
I'm a proud new owner of a male henlei. I would agree that leos are a little higher in price, but both are beautiful rays
It all depends on the quality as well, some henlei are more "brown" and some are really black.

Just wait around. One will come by at a good price. I can tell you that I'll never look at a brown ray the same. I'm happy i got my hen, he was well worth the money. Just make sure you get a nice healthy one. I think for anyone, investing $1k in a fish is a pretty big purchase but is well worth it if it is in fact what you want
