This does not make any sense to my brain.

They can survive a while in a 75 and then a 125 or 150 but they a are a massive fish at 14-16 inches. They have a alot of bulk to them. If a midas grew 2-3 inches more people would say they need a larger tank then a 75. Length isnt the only thing that plays a role in tank size.

Like most cichlids they will hit a cetain size a slow down. I may be wrong but i think umbees hit like 12 inches quick then slow down. Females may grow a lil slower but not always

lol @ bump within 1 minute of opening the thread.

I don't think they get past 14" and I don't think they need anything bigger than a 125, and that's being conservative. A member here has a 10" Umbee pair in a 55 and then they're going to a 90 gal and they don't look miserable yet. But depending on who you ask they will tell you an Umbee pair need an olympic-size swimming pool to be happy.

I am pretty shore that a single male needs a 240 gallon tank. is this true? in the future i wanted a umbee or a dovii

someday i will probably get one. they are sooooooo cool. My biggest tank is 75 gal. is a 120 a LOT harder to take care of than a 75 gallon tank.
