Hello,

I have recently tried to introduce some new fish to utilise the space left by the recent death of my syno catfish. Water quality is good and the current inhabitants are all well - sd's, spotted sd's.

My thinking is that while the sd's are no bullying the new introductions, could they being intimidated by the size of the current inhabitants? They ranged from 2" to almost 6".

Thankyou in advance.

Please read that back to yourself and try to look at it from our side, not knowing anything about the situation.

There is not a clear question or comment for that matter.

Did a fish die and you are wondering why?

Are you asking how to introduce some new and smaller SD's to the shoal?

What happened?

What do you need help with exactly?

can someone send me a private message explaining how to Post a Thread I've been looking and don't know how to post my own thread of my tanks... so if someone could send me a private message explaining step by step of how to post a thread it be greatly appreciated thanks!!!

They are probably going to be intimidated by the new environment for the first few days regardless. Different sized silver dollars usually do well together though. Unless the big ones become aggressive, the little ones should be comforted by schooling with them.

I was trying to introduce a trio of clown loaches to fill the stocking gap left by a syno catfish that died recently. The fish went into tthe tank fine and were still alive at a check later that afternoon. I found them all dead the next day. The cl's were just about 1" and the sd's range from 2" to 6".

I dod not see any signs of the sd's bullying them.

The tank is a 48"x12"x15" 32 gal filtered by 2 fluval 3's.

All of the other inhabitants are fine so I can assume that the water quality is up to scratch.

I've read that Clown Loaches at the 1 inch mark and smaller aren't as hardy as larger ones. That being said, there could have been issues with them that would not have been evident when you bought them home.

This is a very common, but bad assumption. Anyone who has worked at an LFS will know what I mean, "my fish are alive, so my water must be good". Fish adjust to water chemistry, so over time, if your ph is falling and nitrates raising, the fish can adapt to it. New fish may be shocked by the chemical change. So (and I'm not saying it is) your water might be horrible, but your fish are used to it. I had a customer who had three fish in his tank for years, yet every new fish he bought sickened and died...his ph was 4.5...his fish were just used to it.

Have you tested your water recently?

Also, as mentioned above, tiny CLs are a pain in the ***.
