Hey guys,

After having issues finding the prefered DoPhin C2400 here in Aus, i've found this.

Opinions on this for a 300gal?

If not this, i'll just go on the fall back of 3 x 2200lph canisters below.

The tank is also running a sump.

I guess the advantage of multiple filters would be having lots of spots for water output/input (3 would be one in each end and middle, 2 would be one on each end etc, 1 would be the opposite end to the sumps input/output)

Or with the big filter i can rig up PVC so it reaches each end of the tank with both input and output.. That would be easy enough.

when it comes to filters, like heaters, redundancy is a good thing. you have a filter go down you are fine and have extra media if you choose to setup another tank.

would not a couple of FX6 work for you? and I would also add a couple of AC110 just for the mech filtration qualities.

when it comes to bio filtration looking for 5x an hour water turn over, any thing to fast does not have time to fully process the water. for mech filtration looking for 10x and hour.

So, that would work out to filter volume is 6 gallons and a pump rate at about 2600 gallons/hr. I would do two of those filters, but my only concern would be whether those canisters can hold enough bio media that's adequate for your stock.

he says running a sump, guess knowing the size of the sump, would help with that.

Oh, miss that part.
In that case, I think that a single pond canister and the sump should be good IMO

Well the 2 option is out for the C2400, they wont ship to Aus.

Finances are a big part here. Fluval FX6's are $615, i can't afford 1, let alone 2 (need to save to move to the US).

Just ordered one of the 10 000's. So i'll get that in combination with the sump to get started. Next step, air pump.

Xraycer are you saying go with 2 of the 10 000's?

Cheers.

Thanks, so filter arrives next week, then its tank remodel time :D

This weekend will be washing lots and lots of sand from the river and collecting wood and rocks.

I'm not sure how big/small your sump is, and what kind of filtration it's set up with (i.e. mechanical, biological, chemical, etc..), but why not just add additional plumbing to create the drain/incoming and return that you want? I understand the reasoning for redundancy, but there's something to be said about keeping things simple assuming your sump is sufficient. just my .02.
