So admittedly the thread title is a little extreme, but for what feels like the millionth time I'm attempting to rid an Oscar of white spot and possibly parasites; and the white spot is surviving with tank temp at 31°.

Been that temp for about 9-10 days now, also dosed heavily with salt.

Anyway just thought I'd vent a bit, and also bring another discussion on super white spot.

There are strains of ich that can handle warm temps, and strains that can handle a highly mineral and saline environment. The dreaded Lake Tanganyika form is one that tolerates fairly dense osmotic conditions.
I just fought off a nasty ich strain, using a combination of 10lbs of rock salt (salinity >3ppt (parts per thousand))and a 3 day treament of malachite green based med, called NOX-ICH (full dosage each of the 3 days)
day one of the treatment directly below (1-26-15)

day 6 (1-31-15)

I am still very slowly reducing salinity.

get a pick of the white spot on the oscar?

Pops -- your sig line is profound--explains so much.

do not credit me with that, its Socrates.

Just food for thought: I dealt with a nasty strain once that wiped out my tank. Turned out it was velvet.

Hey guys, tried to get a decent pic of the O, but he's a lutino so its basically impossible to tell from photos; I only noticed myself when scrutinising him very closely.

I've never dealt with velvet before, I'll Google it though. Added some white spot meds today, hate adding meds but alas if heat and salt isn't sorting it then c'est la vie.

Then I only have to worry about parasites, which will be fun trying to cure.

can keep the water pristine and bath the fish in methylene blue twice a day if its a fungus. do not add it to tank, will kill your bio filter, 3 caps per 3 us gallons and bath 15 minutes.

but again no pics can not say what it is, if HITH pristine water over time with a good diet only cure.

I'd say zero chance of HITH, Oscar is an inch long, in a 50 gallon alone at the moment; 10% changes every other day.

Has all the classic signs of parasites to me, listlessness, bumping into things; concave belly. Thats aside from the white spot I mean.

Will update on him, I'll hopefully pull him through :)
